Media Institutions: The Music Industry

As a group we had to decide which media institution would produce our music video. The record label we decided to go with is Domino Recording Company.

Like XL Recordings and Sunday Best, Domino is an indie label although is notably bigger than other independent record labels in the UK. Their artist roster is expansive and the records they produce feature artists similar to Radiohead.

Tricky was formerly a member of Massive Attack, a Bristol trip-hop outfit often likened to Radiohead's more recent work.

Another artist on the Domino roster, Four Tet, has actually produced official remixes for Radiohead. The label is big enough to give a new Radiohead album a full release in the UK.

As an indie label, Domino may not have as much money as the five major labels when it comes to producing music videos. Having said this, they are more likely to take a creative risk and produce something less mainstream. Radiohead's music combines elements of electronica and alt-rock, and would be unlikely to fit in on a major label.

Other artists on the Domino roster include Arctic Monkeys, singer-songwriter Bonnie Price Billy and Pavement.
