The institution of our music video

When producing our video it was important to look at who would back our video in the media industry as this could effect the overall style of the video we create. We have looked at instituion in light of the genre of music we are creating a video for. As our music video forms part of the indie genre of music, it does not have such extensive appeal that artists in the mainstream pop genre have. Videos of the mainstream pop genre would be backed by big record labels such as Sony BMG and EMI, which are both one of the four major record companies. These videos would be produced on large budgets and appeal to international audiences.

Our video would be much more likely to be backed by a British indie label such as Rough Trade. This would mean our video would be backed by a different ompany chosen by rough trade. Due to the low budget which indie labels have to work with they don't produce music videos themselves. Instead they work in partnership with another company who will prouce the video for them. There is a lot less money in these kind of videos than in mainstream pop videos. In this kind of organisation, videos can be produced on around £5000 sometimes less, including pay for the artist.
