Health and safety

Before we could start filming, we all had to fill out a risk assessment form, which is a requirement in order for the risks of filming in each location to be realised and assessed. Due to trouble with the moodle system I was not able to get hold of a copy of the form but I have written out the information which appeared on the sheet and filled in all of the appropriate details.

Area: St mary's college Practical project work
Requested by: The St Mary's college media department.

This assessment is required under the management of Health and Safety at work Regulations 1999 and the Manual Handling Regulations 1992.

A. WORK PLACE TYPE - Where will the work take place.

Evie's house
Corporation park
Outside a demolition site
College
The college studio

B. WORK ACTIVITY IN THIS AREA. - What will you be doing?

We will be filming using the camera and the tripod. We may be taking pictures. We will be using the lighting equipment in the studio.

C. WHO WILL BE INVOLVED IN THIS ACTIVITY.

Our media group and our actors. Evie, Danielle, Alistair, Lewis and Magda.

Do you have any physical, mental or behavioural problems that need to be considered?
No

E. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION - What you have to be careful of.

We have to be careful when out and about outside not to fall over or injure ourselves. We have to be careful with the lighting equipment as it can get quite hot. We also need to be careful about tripping over wires in the studio or the green screen cloth and be careful not to trip over the tripod when out and about.

F. CONTROL MEASURES IN PLACE -  What can you do to minimise the risk identified in E?

We just need to have general self awareness when out and about. When using the lighting equipment we must always wear gloves so we don't get burnt. The wires in the studio must be taped down with duck tape so they do not catch on anyones shoes. Someone must be stood by the tripod at all times when it is not being used for filming.

Specialist equipment - Do you use any specialist equipment and what will you do to protect it and use it safely.

Before operating any of the specialist lighting equipment, we must first take watch a demonstration of the lights being set up. We must also read the health and safety sheets which tell us how to operate the lights properly and what safety precautions we must take.

G. ASSESSMENT OF RISK

To staff: Low
To students: Low/medium
To others: Low

We have all agreed to the publication of this risk assessment. Evie, Danielle, Alistair and Lewis (19/11/10)
